DAY 22: MAU MERE PRACTICE DANCING

We decided to performed Mau-mere dance and sing four songs from different island.
Since today there was no activity for S-Tvet and S-Teacher, so we practice to dance and sing.
The insternship was over actually but for S-teacher, we had to submit our portofolio on September 6th.
You can see our practice here

DAY 21: ASSISTING AGAIN

Actually I didn't have any class on Friday but Ma'am Leslie asked me and Joy (the next Practice Teacher after me) to check student's answer sheets in grade 8.
Ma'am Leslie was so busy these days because she had to prepare and watch the students practice for ASEAN FESTIVAL that would be held on September 3rd - 7th.
And this assisting also help me to fulfill my teaching hours. I had to fulfill 20 hours of teaching and assisting.

Anyway, I just met joy for few days, but she was being my friend.
She is very nice and kind. She is from TAU and her cooperating teacher is also Ma'am Lelsie.
That was why I went to the class with her. She was also there in my evaluation day.

She is not alone being practice teacher here. Her friend, Reyland is also practice teacher in Laboratory School, but he teaches other grades.

I liked to eat kwek-kwek with her in canteen near school and share some stories.
It was nice to meet new friends and know something new from their countries.

Me and Joy

Afterwards, I continued my assiting at the noon with different companion.
I accompanied my roomate, Galuh, to teach grade 9 about Inheredity.
Her cooperating teacher couldn't accompany her since she had a lot of tasks so I asked her to accompany Galuh.

Galuh and Me
Galuh was my closest friend in Philippines. She was my roommate and also my friend when eating.
We both loved to eat in Philippines haha, we also like kwek-kwek so much.
We always eat kwek-kwek after school.

I'm gonna miss her and everything in Philippines 😔

DAY 20: MY EVALUATION DAY

Today I taught 7A and 7B but this was my last day to taught grade 7B AgHome.
This class is superb. They always raise their hands when I ask a question.
They give their attention when I explain something, but some of them are shy to ask me if they don’t know or can’t understand my explaination.
They also can’t keep silent when their friends present something in front of class.
But that is my job to make them quite. I hope I can teach this class again.

Topic for today was Laboratory Safety. Before I continued my lesson, I asked them about steps of scientific method and then I relate the fourth step of scientific method which was experimentation with the topic today.
I told them that scientist conduct the experimentation in Laboratory and then I begun to ask them “Have you been go to the laboratory in this school?” but it was so pity, they never go to the laboratory maybe because this is their first year and first semester in the school.
I continued with my explanation that when we go to the laboratory,
we should follow some rules and wear certain attire to protect us and other people.

Before I continued my explanation about PPE/lab equipment,
I asked them to watch the video about lab safety and wrote the dos and don’ts in the lab.
They were so excited and when I asked them to write this answers on the board, so many students raises their hand and it made me so confuse to choose.
But that was something that made me, as a teacher, feeling so happy because it proved that the students gave their attention.

After checked their answers, I explained more about lab safety procedures and then the students had true/false game. They were really happy if they had an activity like game.
So the rules were if they belived that the statement that I show to them was right they had to stand up and if they believed that the statement that I show to them was false, they had to sit down.
Afterwards as usual they had seatwork for their assesment.

Today was my evaluation day.
I was so nervous because there were two expert teachers that watch me teaching.
Ms. Leslie already told me that I had to make my voice louder and asked them questions to make them alive in class. But all the suggestions that Ms. Leslie gave to me were forgotten because of the nervous.
Mam Blessie as my supervisor and Ma’am Leslie as my cooperating teacher told me that my problem is about my voice. The students that sit in the back couldn’t hear my voice so I had to walk around. I had to make the students being active also, so they wouldn’t be bored along my lesson. I could ask the students to read my power point. And the last was about my font in my power point, it was to small so the students in the back couldn’t read it.
I thank to Mam Blessie and also my inspirational cooperating teacher, Ma’am Leslie, about their advice. I really needed it to increase my teaching skill. I already learnt a lot from this experience, here, in Laboratory School.

Me with my cooperating teacher, Ma'am. Leslie

Me and my supervisor, Mam Blessie
Since this was my last day to teach grade 7B AgHome, so I took a picture with them..
I'm gonna miss them so much <3

DAY 19: PRESENTATION OF NIPS COUNTING

I had plan to teach them about new topic, general laboratory safety, but because there was no projector so I just continued the presentation about the activity that students did in the last meeting. There were 8 groups that present their results today whereas the other two groups had already present it in the previous meeting.

Actually there was one group that didn’t complete the answer. They didn’t answer the last question about the conclusion of their activity and also they didn’t draw the graph besides the score of those questions is 40. So I gave them a chance to complete it but I substract their total score by 10 points due to the delays of submitted and I gave 5 points to the first group that sumbit the worsheet to me. I did that to make them understand the important of time management and they should follow the rules not just in my class but also in other classes.

The presentation took 50 minutes to be finished by 8 groups. Yes, it was so long, because I had to wait them complete first around 5-10 minutes before I started the class. At the last 10 minutes, I explained about the lab safety assignment. I asked them to make a mind map. They didn’t know what is mind map, I already predicted it therefore I already prepared the example of mind map. Since there was no projector, so I asked them to see the example of mind map on my laptop’s screen. I gave them this assignment because I run of time. I will not teach them next week so I have to complete these three topic this week, that’s why I gave them this assignment so they could learn it first and then in the class I just explain it a little so I can have more time to continue my lesson to the next topic.

DAY 18: NIPS COUNTING

Hello fellas!

Holiday was over. I had to back to school on Tuesday, and this was my student’s time to do an activity of my lesson about Scientific Method. The activity was about Counting Nips. Nips is colored candy bag, Indonesia has “chacha” and Philippines has “Nips”.

They were so excited when I told them that today they would had Nips candy. Some of them asked to me if they could eat the nips or not. I said yes, after the activity finished.

Before I started the activity, I asked them first about what they have learned in the last meeting and what the topic was. They still remember about scientific methods. Afterwards, I continued with discuss the seatwork that they did in the last meeting because some of them got low score. So I asked two students to wrote their answers on the board so everyone could write the right answers.
After that, I made ten groups that consist of five members each group and then I shared the worksheet and gave them one nips for one group. They made a circle each group so they could work easier. Ms. Leslie (my cooperating teacher) helped me to explain how to do the activity such as how to made a graph and then how to calculate the percentage. I gave them 30 minutes to finish the activity but they seemed need more time to finish the task and some of them missunderstand about the steps. Actually, they had to predict the answers first about how many candies in the bag and how many candies each color in the bag. They should predict or guess it not write the exact or actual numbers, but they already opened the bag of candy. So I told them to cover the candy first while they answer the hypothesis questions.
When the groups all finished, I asked them to present their answers in front of the class. And after that they could eat the nips candy. They were so happy, so am I.

DAY 17: GOING TO SWIMMING POOL

Hello fellas
We went to swimming pool today. Actually, we had plan to have picnic on last Saturday but because of the heavy rain, it was posponed. The place is near from TAU actually, it just took 5 minutes to get there by car. Some buddies and also mam Christine went to the swimming pool. I already brought my change clothes for swimming but I didn’t swim because I was afraid if I would get fever again.
I just took a picture around swimming pool. We also ate together, mam christine brought so many foods such as roasted chicken, vegetable, fruits. We all enjoyed the food especially me, because I really miss indonesian food and the roasted chicken just like indonesian food. So yummy.

We also had games with buddies. There are three games that we played together. The first one, we had to make a group and there is an instructor. We had to follow the instructor said. For instance, if the instructor say “arrange your group from the smallest to the tallest” so we had to do it. And if we finished, we had to sit down. The first group to finished it would be the winner. In second game, we had to close our eyes and then made a sound to find our groups. In the third game, we had to make a big circle and then if the instructor said “Make a group of 4 members”, we had to make a circle with 4 members only. Someone who didn’t have group would be the looser.
After the games, we tried halo-halo, it was made by mam Christine. It tasted so good. It looked like “Es campur” because it was made from fruits, jelly and also milk.

We went back to the hostel at 3 p.m. It was very good to have a refreshing because we really needed it since we have to do our lesson plan everyday.

DAY 15: IPUL'S BIRTHDAY

What a pity we are, Saturday was the day that we always waited for because on Saturday we would get a tour. But because of the heavy rain that happened on this Saturday, it was postponed. So there was no so much story that I could tell you.

But at noon, we practiced Mau Mere dance for ASEAN FESTIVAL in TAU that will be held on September 4, 2018. So we will present some dances and sing songs of each province.
if you want to see, you can check my buddy's facebook.
the video of our practice dancing mau-mere was uploaded in her FB account

And we also prepared a little birthday surprise for our friends, Saipul, he is S-Tvet student but we lived in the same hostel. When the night came, we surprised him with birthday cake a.k.a snacks with electric candle (?) lol.

One of our buddies, Kuya Lao, wear white blanket and he covered his face with facial tissue so he looked like a ghost. So the plan was everybody would carried Saipul outside and Lao was waiting for him. After that we surprised him with the cake but sttt.. the cake was salty because we added salt on the cake haha.

Well, he really felt special because everybody woke up that night. We were happy because we could have many new friends here and this little surprise made us closer. Before this party was closed haha, Saipul told us that he really thank to us because it was so special and he would remember this forever. Ouh, that was so sweet moment. I hoped that my birthday was on August too haha charot!
